Harry Reich, MD, FACOG, FACS, is known worldwide as a pioneer in the field of laparoscopic surgery having performed many firsts, including the first laparoscopic hysterectomy, the first pelvic lymphadenectomy for cancer, and the first excision of cul-de-sac endometriosis that included rectal resection. Dr. Reich has performed more than 4,000 gynecologic laparoscopy procedures, and is internationally renowned for developing advanced laparoscopic techniques and for his many publications, presentations, textbooks and chapters, lectures and research. He is the co-editor of the Textbook of Laparoscopy, 3rd Edition, published in 1998. He has special interest and expertise in the field of advanced laparoscopic surgery involving total laparoscopic hysterectomy, anterior rectal resection for endometriosis, treatment of complete cul-de-sac obliteration, and prevention and management of laparoscopic complications. In 1997 Dr. Reich became the first non-European given honorary membership in the European Society of Gynecologic Endoscopy. In 1991 he received the Excel Award for extraordinary contributions to laparoscopy by the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. He is consistently listed among the Best Doctors in America in many ranking publications. A graduate of Lehigh University and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dr. Reich was Director of Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center (Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons), New York City until June 2000. His professional memberships include the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), European Society for Gynecological Endoscopy (the first honorary member from the USA), Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS, founding member & past president), International Society of Gynecologic Endoscopists (ISGE, Trustee 1993-1997), and the Board of Directors of the Foundation of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. Dr. Reich has operated at more than 60 sites around the world. He has been chairman of the advanced laparoscopic course in Moscow, Russia for the past 10 years. Dr. Reich serves as a reviewer for many of the gynecologic scientific journals.
